Our students come from a completely different world than the one we grew up in. As teachers, it is our duty to understand our students perspective on the world in order to find a common ground with them and reach higher levels of learning. Read this article on the impact that social media has had on the way the younger generation views the world around them.

Utilitzar una wiki a l'aula per ensenyar, aprende i col.laborar

Using a wiki in the classroom is an effective idea as students are able to collaborate online while at home or at school. Teachers and students are also able to communicate to each other and learning is no longer stuck within the bounds of the school day. Using wikis also encourages the use of other digital tools and online resources for learning and assessment purposes. Using a class wiki that updates weekly with content from the lessons that week is great for students to review, study and complete homework in a more engaging way than the rudimentary and slightly archaic methods stills used today. Collaborative learning can excel and students are able to receive feedback from teachers instantly and on many topics, rather than on assessments or drafts. |

Worth a view. Social media can be an extremely powerful resource, but only when used effectively and appropriately.

It seems that social media has perpetuated the need for youths to deem their self worth on others and are constantly seeking for approval. Youths mould a distorted image of themselves, selectively choosing to showcase the positive side of life. As long as social media enhances one’s perception of themselves through the instant gratification one gets from the likes and comments, it is a matter of time when self confidence be gradually magnified to extreme admiration for oneself. However, I stand for the opinion that narcissism is the new norm in society, and that humans are all a bit narcissistic in nature and social media has just provided the platform to express ourselves.

Good insight. My sense is that technology expands what is already in the human heart and social media magnifies and encourages narcissism.
